Edward Leonard Graham Hughes was a notable New Zealand racing cyclist born on February 23, 1916, in Morningside, Auckland. He began competing in junior races in 1932 and achieved significant success, including winning the Auckland provincial and North Island 100-miles road race championship in 1936. He was also a runner-up at the national amateur track cycling championships in 1937. Despite missing selection for the 1938 British Empire Games, he continued to compete. Hughes later competed in the 1950 British Empire Games, finishing eighth in the 1 km time trial. He passed away on January 14, 2013.
