Greg Ballard is a former Republican Mayor of Indianapolis, Indiana, born in 1954. He is a retired U.S. Marine Corps officer with the rank of Major. Ballard made headlines on November 6, 2007, when he defeated the incumbent Democratic mayor, Bart Peterson, with 51% of the vote in what was described as a major upset in Indiana's political history. He was re-elected to the position in November 2011, winning by the same margin. Ballard also served in the Gulf War.
