Greg Louganis, born on January 29, 1960, is regarded as one of the greatest divers in the world. He began competitive diving at age 10 and won his first Olympic medal at 16 in 1976. At 24, he became the first man in 56 years to win two medals in diving; in 1988, he made history by being the first diver to win consecutive gold medals in the Olympics. A six-time world champion, he also held 47 national championship titles in the U.S. Louganis publicly came out as gay in 1994 and later revealed his HIV-positive status in 1995.
