Gregorio Hernández Ríos, also known as El Goyo, was a Cuban rumba singer, dancer, and percussionist born on 17 November 1936. A founding member of the Conjunto Folklórico Nacional, he led Grupo Oba-Ilú, a Santería music ensemble. El Goyo toured internationally and collaborated with notable artists, winning the Latin Grammy Award in 2001. His work was recognized with a nomination for the 2003 Premio Cubadisco. As a teacher at the Instituto Superior de Arte, he influenced many while continuing to perform in Havana until his death on 8 January 2012.
