Gregory III Laham is a Syrian patriarch, born on December 15, 1933. He became the Patriarch of Antioch and all the East for the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, located in Syria, after being elected on November 29, 2000. He succeeded Patriarch Maximos V Hakim, who resigned at the age of 92 due to health issues and passed away eight months later. Gregory III Laham resigned from his position on May 6, 2017, and was succeeded by Joseph I Absi.
