She survived the Holocaust, unlike her parents who were murdered in extermination camps, and later lived in Canada. Throughout her life, she was also known by names such as Gretl Keren Krausová, Gretl K. Fischer, and Gretl Kraus Fischer. Fischer was influential in her fields, contributing to literature and education.
