A professor at Moscow State University, he participated in World War II as a military commissioner. Sitnik significantly contributed to the field of astrophysics, particularly in spectrophotometry of sunlight, creating standards for energy distribution and studying atmospheric distortions. He authored over 250 publications and educated numerous candidates of sciences. Sitnik received several awards for his military service and scientific achievements, and he passed away in Moscow in 1996.
