Guillermo Ángel Opitz (June 6, 1934 – June 21, 2024) was an Argentine pianist, conductor, and pedagogue. He received his first musical instruction at the Dresden Cross Choir (Dresdner Kreuzchor) in Germany, followed by studies in Buenos Aires with prestigious piano teachers (A. Brandl, F. Masbach, and E. Burés), chamber music (E. Pelz), and composition (Guillermo Graetzer). He concluded his studies with degrees in choral and orchestral conducting at the Music High Schools of Hamburg and Munich, as a scholarship recipient of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). Opitz had an extensive and prolonged career as a concert performer in halls, radio, and television in Argentina and other American countries, performing with singers and instrumentalists. He was particularly known for his collaborations with Carlos Pessina, Ángel Mattiello, Paul Tortelier, and Arto Noras. Opitz was also a prominent figure in the field of music education, holding a chair in Choral Conducting at the Faculty of Arts and Musical Sciences of the Catholic University of Argentina, and directing the Chamber Music Foundation, which he founded in 1983.
