Gunnar Stenfors was a Finnish alpine skier born on February 28, 1903, in Turku and passed away on June 6, 1955, in Kolari. He competed in the 1939 Alpine World Championships and was a pioneer of ski tourism in Lapland, notably popularizing Yllästunturi. Stenfors owned a ski lodge in Äkäslompolo and became the second age-old member of Suomen Latu in 1949. He tragically drowned while kayaking on Äkäsjoki, and his body was discovered days later. An autopsy revealed that he died from a heart attack.
