Gustaaf Adolf (Guus) de Jonge was a Dutch pediatrician born on February 23, 1924, in Apeldoorn, and he passed away on March 9, 2015, in Oegstgeest. He became known for his research into sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). In 1987, he made headlines with controversial recommendations to prevent SIDS, particularly advising against stomach sleeping. As these guidelines were increasingly adopted, the incidence of SIDS in the Netherlands significantly decreased. He was appointed professor of pediatrics at VU in 1980 and retired in 1989.
