Gwilym Ellis Lane Owen (1922-1982) was a prominent British writer and philosopher noted for his research in ancient philosophy, particularly Aristotle. He was born in Portsmouth to a Welsh father and an English mother. He studied classics at Oxford before serving as an intelligence officer in WWII. After returning, he taught at Oxford and held the Lawrence Professorship of Ancient Philosophy at Harvard from 1973 until his death.
