H. James Shea Jr. (December 10, 1939 – May 9, 1970) was an American politician from Massachusetts. He lived most of his life in Newton and graduated from Tufts University. After leaving the University of Virginia School of Law, he worked as a civil engineer, real estate broker, and university lecturer. A progressive member of the Democratic Party, he served on Newton's local council and the Massachusetts House of Representatives, opposing U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War and supporting the burgeoning environmental movement before his tragic suicide at age 30.
