Major Hari Pal Singh Ahluwalia (1936-2022) was an esteemed Indian mountaineer, author, and social worker. He significantly impacted adventure sports, the environment, and disability rights. Notably, he was the first Indian to summit Mount Everest on May 29, 1965, as part of the Indian Army expedition that saw nine climbers reach the top. Following a spinal injury during the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War, he became wheelchair-bound and served as Chairman of the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre. Ahluwalia authored thirteen books and produced the acclaimed series, Beyond Himalaya.
