Habib el-Adly, born on March 1, 1938, served as Egypt's Minister of Interior from 1997 until 2011. He succeeded Hassan El-Alfy after the Luxor massacre in 1997. El-Adly was dismissed on January 31, 2011, amid the January 25 Revolution, where the Interior Ministry was accused of violently dispersing protesters, resulting in casualties. He was detained for 15 days starting February 18, 2011, for corruption investigations and was later sentenced to 12 years for financial corruption, torture, murder, and money laundering. His trial began on August 3, 2011.
