Hakon Walter Westermarck (1912-1995) was a Finnish professor and an influential figure in animal welfare. He was the first professor of pharmacology and toxicology at the Veterinary University of Finland from 1955 until his retirement in 1976. He served as chairman of the Finnish Animal Protection Association from 1981 to 1985 and was actively involved in various animal welfare organizations. His work emphasized the importance of animal welfare within the veterinary profession. He was married to Alma Ingrid and had four children.
