Halyna Polywanowa was a Soviet-Ukrainian soprano and music pedagogue. She was born on April 1, 1929, in Krasnoye Selo and died on December 6, 2020, in Odessa. She studied opera and concert singing and music pedagogy at the Odessa State Conservatory, graduating in 1953. She made her debut in 1953 as Cio-Cio-San in Puccini's Madama Butterfly. Her repertoire included 40 roles. She performed in Kyiv, Moscow, Minsk, Voronezh, Riga, Chisinau, Kazan, and Leningrad. She also toured Albania, Afghanistan, India, Bulgaria, Poland, Germany, Spain, Norway, Switzerland, France, and Finland. She sang under Evgeny Fyodorovich Svetlanov, Vladimir Ivanovich Fedoseyev, Yaroslav Antonovich Voshchak, and Igor Vasilyevich Lazanich, who contributed to her education. In 1966, she worked for a time at the Chechen-Ingush State Philharmonic in Grozny. In 1976, she was invited by Olga Nikolaevna Blagovidova to become head of the solo singing department at the Odessa Conservatory. Her students include Larisa Pavlovna Suyenko and Stanislav Antonovich Kovalevsky.
