Hamdi al-Sayyid was an Egyptian cardiologist and served as the head of the medical syndicate for four consecutive terms. He was also a member of the Egyptian Parliament from the Heliopolis district for three consecutive terms. After graduating from medical school, he joined the cardiovascular surgery department at Ain Shams University and served on the academic promotion committee. He was known for his fiery interrogations against the government but lost his parliamentary seat in the 2010 elections amid accusations of electoral fraud perpetrated by the police and his own party.
