Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe was a Sri Lankan diplomat and civil servant, serving as the High Commissioner to India and as Ambassador to Nepal and Afghanistan from 1963 to 1967. He was the Permanent Secretary of the Ministries of Finance and Health. From 1967 to 1980, he represented Ceylon at the United Nations and served as President of the UN General Assembly in 1976. Additionally, Amerasinghe played a significant role in the negotiations to draft the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
