Hamit Karakus is a Turkish-Dutch politician and police officer born on February 22, 1965. He served as a member of the Senate and as an alderman in Rotterdam representing the Labour Party. Originally from Turkey, he grew up in Steenwijk and had a decade-long career as a police officer. He transitioned to the real estate sector as a deputy director before becoming Rotterdam's alderman of housing and spatial planning in 2006. After leaving this post, he became CEO of Platform31 and IVO, later serving as a senator and appointed chief of the North Holland police in September 2023.
