He competed in the 1960s and 1970s, earning a fourth-place finish at the 1972 Munich Olympics and a silver medal in the same event at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. He also won a gold medal at the 1974 European Athletics Championships and five national championships from 1970 to 1974. Post-retirement, he became a well-known photographer, particularly famous for his bird photography, and published a book that received accolades from the WWF.
