Harihar Rao (1927–2013) was an Indian-born American musician renowned for his tabla and sitar skills. Raised in a musical family in India, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1964. A Fulbright Scholar at UCLA, he combined Indian classical music with jazz, forming the Hindustani Jazz Sextet. He co-authored a music guide and released influential albums blending Indian and Western sounds. An influential teacher and close friend of Ravi Shankar, he co-founded the Music Circle to promote Indian classical music, serving as its Artistic Director for 40 years.
