Harold William Felton was an American writer and folklorist born on April 1, 1902. He authored numerous children's books and American tall tales. After graduating from the University of Nebraska with a law degree, he practiced law for five years in Omaha before joining the Internal Revenue Service, where he worked until retirement. He married Hildegard (Helen) Kessler in 1933, and later they moved to Manhattan, New York City. Felton passed away on July 12, 1991.
