Harold S. Stone is an American computer engineer born on August 10, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University in 1960 and completed his Master's and Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1961 and 1963, respectively. Stone served as an Associate Professor at Stanford University from 1968 to 1974 and then as a Professor at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst until 1984. He conducted research at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center and NEC Research Institute, focusing on computer architecture and parallel computing.
