Harriet Sohmers Zwerling was an American writer and artist's model, significant in the Beat Generation. She lived in Paris in the 1950s, part of the bohemian scene surrounding James Baldwin. Zwerling translated a novel by Marquis de Sade and worked for the International Herald Tribune. In 1959, she moved to New York, engaging in its literary environment and publishing stories. A model for notable painters, she had lovers of both genders, including Susan Sontag. Zwerling married Louis Zwerling, with whom she had a son, musician Milo Z. In 2003, her writings were published.
