Harriet Rosa Spanel was an American politician and community volunteer, born on January 15, 1939, in Audubon, Iowa. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Iowa State University in 1961 and worked as a computer programmer. Moving to Washington, she served on local commissions and in the Washington House of Representatives from 1987 to 1993, and in the Washington State Senate from 1993 to 2009. She was the Democratic nominee for Washington's 2nd congressional district in 1994. Spanel passed away on February 2, 2016.
