Harry Max Harrison (Henry Maxwell Dempsey, March 12, 1925 - August 15, 2012) was an American science fiction writer, best known for his Stainless Steel Rat character and the novel 'Make Room! Make Room!' (1966), which inspired the film 'Soylent Green' (1973). He co-founded the Irish Science Fiction Association and was co-chair with Brian Aldiss of the Birmingham Science Fiction Group. Described as kind, candid, and entertaining, Harrison had a sharp wit and a deep intellect, often using humor to critique societal issues.
