Harvey Johnson Jr. is an American politician from Mississippi, born on December 21, 1946. He made history in 1997 by becoming the first African American Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi, a position he held for two terms. Johnson is recognized for his contributions to the city's revitalization efforts, particularly in attracting reinvestment to downtown Jackson. After serving as mayor, he attempted a comeback in 2009 with successful elections but faced defeat in the 2013 Democratic primary when challengers Chokwe Lumumba and Jonathan Lee contested his fourth term bid.
