Hastings Ndlovu (1961 – 1976) was a schoolboy who was shot and killed during the Soweto uprising on June 16, 1976. The police opened fire on protesting students opposing a government decision to use Afrikaans and English as languages of instruction in schools. Ndlovu was the first to be shot, but his death went unnoticed compared to that of Hector Pieterson, although it is uncertain who died first. He is survived by his parents, three sisters, and a brother, and is buried at Avalon Cemetery in Soweto.
