His contributions extended beyond pastoral care, as he was responsible for the establishment of various facilities, including the St. Anna nursing home and St. Anna kindergarten. The area in front of the Annasäule was named 'Pfarrer-Köttgen-Platz' in his honor on his 102nd birthday.
