Hélène Gelèns is a Dutch poet born on May 6, 1967, in Bergschenhoek. Writing primarily in Dutch, she is known for her experimental poetry, which remains accessible. Gelèns studied various disciplines including astronomy, Dutch philology, history, and philosophy, ultimately graduating in philosophy from the University of Amsterdam. Her debut collection, 'niet beginnen bij het hoofd' (do not start with the head), was nominated for the C. Buddingh' Prize. In 2007 she wrote the libretto for the oratorio 'Voices' and won the Jan Campert Prize in 2010 for her collection 'zet af en zweet'.
