Helge Alfred Oscar Backlund was a Swedish educator and zoologist, born on December 9, 1913, in Sankt Petersburg, and passed away on February 14, 1974, in Karlstad. He obtained a bachelor's degree in philosophy in 1941, followed by a licentiate in 1943 and a doctorate in 1945. Backlund served as a docent in zoology at Lund University between 1945 and 1950 and later became a lecturer in Karlstad in 1952. His research focused on the fauna and ecology of marine biomes, entomology, Oligochaeta, and the fauna and vegetation of Africa.
