Hema Premadasa, née Wickramatunge, born on October 27, 1934, is a prominent Sri Lankan politician and the widow of Ranasinghe Premadasa, the 3rd President of Sri Lanka. Serving as the First Lady from January 2, 1989, to May 1, 1993, she engaged in humanitarian efforts during her husband’s presidency. Known for her independence, she was active in the Seva Vanitha Movement and organized rallies despite government opposition. In 1994, she attempted to run for presidency but faced challenges from rival parties. She is the mother of Sajith Premadasa, a current political leader, and an enthusiastic netball player.
