Henk van der Vorst is a Dutch mathematician born on May 5, 1944. He specializes in numerical mathematics, particularly known for his influential work in numerical linear algebra. He introduced the Biconjugate Stabilized Gradient Method (BiCGSTAB), which became widely cited in the 1990s. He completed his doctorate in 1982 at Utrecht University and later served as a professor at TU Delft and Utrecht University until his retirement in 2005. He is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Netherlands Academy of Technology and Innovation, and he is a SIAM Fellow.
