She competed in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Pusan, where she and her crew member Marion Bultman finished in 13th place in the 470 Women's class. Vegter and Bultman made history as the first female sailors to compete for the Netherlands in the Olympics, joining notable figures such as Mej. C. de Visser.
