Henri Vidal was a French civil engineer born on February 10, 1924, in Draguignan. He is renowned for inventing Terre Armée, or mechanically stabilized earth, in 1963. Vidal graduated from École Polytechnique in 1944 and later from École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in 1949. He aspired to be an architect, studying at École des Beaux-Arts de Paris and graduated in 1961. He opened an architectural practice that year and collaborated on significant projects, including the Musée d'art moderne et d'art contemporain in Nice.
