He was born in Porto Amboim and studied at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. Santos was key in the MPLA, having been elected to its Central Committee during a pivotal conference in 1974. He is also recognized for creating the national flag following Angola's independence from colonial rule. Santos passed away on 15 October 2023, leaving behind a significant legacy in Angolan politics.
