Henry Arnold Karo was a vice admiral in the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey Corps, which is now known as the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps. He dedicated most of his career to the Survey, providing crucial coastal maps and charts. Beginning his involvement in 1923, he ascended the ranks to become the organization’s director. During WWII, he served in other capacities and achieved the rank of rear admiral, before returning to the Coast and Geodetic Survey after the war.
