Henry Anthony Obering III is a retired lieutenant general of the United States Air Force, known for his role as Director of the Missile Defense Agency prior to retirement. A distinguished graduate of the ROTC program at the University of Notre Dame, he joined the Air Force in 1973. Obering flew operational roles in the F-4E and worked with NASA, participating in 15 Space Shuttle launches. He holds a Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering and a Master's in astronautical engineering from Stanford. He resides with his wife Anne and their three children.
