Mahatelage Henry Peiris was a Ceylonese Marxist politician born on May 2, 1910, and a significant figure in the socialist movement of the country. He was a prominent activist in the Lanka Sama Samaja Party and served as the editor and publisher of the underground Marxist publication, Samasamajaya. Peiris successfully contested the first parliamentary election in 1947 as a candidate for the Bolshevik Samasamaja Party, defeating a well-known opponent. However, he lost his seat in the second election held in 1952.
