Herbert Mullin was an American serial killer who murdered 13 people in California during the early 1970s. He claimed that the murders were necessary to prevent earthquakes. In 1973, he was tried to determine his sanity and was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and nine counts of second-degree murder, receiving a life sentence in prison. He was denied parole eight times during his incarceration and was never sentenced to death. Mullin was involved in a gruesome coincidence with fellow killer Edmund Kemper, as both were arrested within weeks of each other after numerous killings.
