Herman Goldstein (1931 - January 24, 2020) was an American criminologist and professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is known for co-developing the problem-oriented approach to policing along with O.W. Wilson from the Chicago Police Department. Goldstein earned his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania and spent two years as a field researcher observing police operations while assisting the city manager of Portland, Maine, before collaborating with Wilson in Chicago from 1960 to 1964. His work has had a significant influence on policing strategies.
