Hilarius, whose secular name was Eduard Stepanowitsch Schischkowskij, was an archpriest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate and served as the Archbishop of Makarow. He was also a vicar bishop for the Kyiv diocese and was engaged in educational roles as the rector of both the catechetical school and the iconography school in Kyiv. Hilarius often represented the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at inter-church and academic events within Ukraine and abroad.
