She moved to Leningrad in 1926, graduated from high school in 1937, and earned her history degree from Leningrad State University in 1941. During the Siege of Leningrad, she worked in various roles. After being imprisoned for anti-Soviet activities from 1945 to 1954, she pursued a career in Egyptology and joined the Institute of East Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences from 1960 to 1976, specializing in her field.
