Hiromichi Tsuya was a Japanese geologist born on May 10, 1902, in Gifu Prefecture. He graduated from the geology department of Tokyo Imperial University in 1926 and earned a Doctor of Science degree in 1937. Tsuya served as an assistant professor at the Tokyo Imperial University Earthquake Research Institute from 1930 and became a professor in 1940, later becoming the director in 1945. He contributed significantly to geology by clarifying that Mount Fuji consists of three volcanic bodies. He received notable awards including the Second Class Order of the Rising Sun in 1973.
