Horace J. 'Hoddy' Mahon was a prominent basketball coach known for his tenure as head coach of the Seton Hall Pirates during the 1981–82 season. Prior to this, he made his mark as a successful high school coach, leading both Orange High School and Essex Catholic High School to state finals. An assistant at Fordham before Seton Hall, Mahon enjoyed a respectable coaching record, especially highlighted by an upset win against the University of Houston. Despite his achievements, he was not retained by Seton Hall after his season as head coach.
