Høgni Debes Joensen is a Faroese physician and author, born on October 12, 1944, in Frederiksberg, Denmark. He is the son of Faroese parents and grew up in Tórshavn. He completed his secondary education in 1963 and earned his medical degree in 1969 from the University of Copenhagen. Joensen specialized in dermatology/venereology in 1976 and public health/administrative medicine in 1983. He served as the chief medical officer in the Faroe Islands from 1979 until retirement in 2014. He debuted as a novelist in 2016 with the book 'Stjørnustundir í skugga.'
