Hōji Nagai (永井 萠二) was a Japanese journalist and children's literature author, born on May 4, 1920, in Tokyo. He graduated from Waseda University with a focus on sociology. During his university years, he was part of the Waseda Children's Story Association. In 1946, he joined Asahi Shimbun, where he worked on post-war editorial projects, writing children's non-fiction and reports. He won the Sankei Children's Publishing Culture Award for his work 'Sasabune Captain' in 1956 and later served as a professor at Shotoku Gakuen College.
