He played for teams like the Indianapolis Kautskys and Sheboygan Red Skins in the National Basketball League, and the Louisville Colonels in the Professional Basketball League of America. Thompson attended the University of Kentucky for college basketball and boxing. His career was interrupted by military service in World War II. After basketball, he worked as a teacher in Indiana and later for the Broward County Board of Health in Florida, returning to Indiana before his death on June 19, 2007.
