Homi Jehangir Bhabha (October 30, 1909 - January 24, 1966) was an Indian nuclear physicist and the founding director and professor of physics at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). Often referred to as the 'father of the Indian nuclear program', Bhabha was also the founding director of the Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (now known as the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre). Both TIFR and AEET were cornerstones in the development of India's nuclear weapons program, overseen by Bhabha in his capacity as director. He received the Adams Prize in 1942 and the Padma Bhushan in 1954, and was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1951 and from 1953 to 1956.
