He completed his high school education at Nicolae Bălcescu High School and graduated with a physics degree from the University of Bucharest in 1995. He obtained his PhD from State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2000. Năstase has held various research positions, including at Princeton and Brown University, and gained media attention for his work suggesting that string theory could be tested experimentally.
